How do architects design a children's clinic for a place they have never visited? And what changes when they finally arrive in that unfamiliar environment? Architect Nina Ratočka Pevná and architect Lukáš Janout from luni studio will present the SSUUBO Clinic project, which will be built in Uganda and will specialize in treating sickle cell anemia–a serious genetic disease that affects thousands of children annually. The discussion will focus on the architectural, cultural, and personal challenges associated with designing in a different climate, without available resources, but with deep respect for the local community. Throughout the evening, you'll hear the story of the initial responses to the brief, and experiences from the trip to Uganda, meetings with patients, local construction techniques, and the dilemmas that accompanied the clinic's design.
