CAMP Tour: Prague’s Riverbanks

The Vltava River and its surroundings were once primarily a transportation corridor and part of the city’s technical infrastructure. In recent years, however, the river has taken on a new role, bringing nature into the city and becoming a vibrant space for leisure, movement, and social life - although many parts of the riverfront still require greater care and attention from the city. How has historical river regulation shaped the current form of Prague’s riverbanks, and why do we find ourselves turning back to the river today? Join a guided walk with colleagues from the public space office of IPR Prague as we explore the timeline from early riverbank engineering to current projects transforming the city’s relationship with its river. The tour is based on the Koncepce pražských břehů—a planning document introduced in 2013 that enables coordinated, citywide development along the river. We'll begin at Smíchovská náplavka, cross the Vyšehrad railway bridge and end our walk in one of the newly adapted vaults on the Rašínovo nábřeží.

Practical information:

  • Meeting point: Vault 7 (Kobka 7) at Smíchovská náplavka
  • Duration: approximately 1.5–2 hours
