The personal and professional affection between patron Truus Schröder-Schräder and Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld led to the creation of the Rietveld Schröder House in 1924, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. The documentary Living in a Piece of Furniture is a cross-section of the work of this iconic designer, a member of the De Stijl art movement, with special attention paid to the aforementioned first realisation. The house was a great experiment born of mutual inspiration and close collaboration between the two partners, and Rietveld subsequently used the principles employed here in his other works.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the film's director, Lex Reitsma.
The event is part of the Film and Architecture Festival.
