Rethink Architecture: Cottages and Chalets

Cottages, chalets, and trips to forests and mountains are an integral part of Czech identity. However, the phenomenon of escaping to the countryside has its drawbacks, such as car dependence and overtourism. Moreover, building on “greenfields” is inherently unsustainable. If we do decide to build, how can we design and operate these structures to be as environmentally friendly and low-carbon as possible? The first Rethink Architecture lecture of the year will focus on holiday cottages, mountain chalets, and DIY renovations. Topics will include sustainable materials, renovations, reuse, technologies, and eco-friendly operation of recreational buildings.

The event is organized in cooperation with the Rethink Architecture Institute under the auspices of the Czech Green Building Council. The lecture is part of the LIFE ClimArchiBase project, co-financed by the EU and the Ministry of the Environment.
