The energy and inner compulsion of the students who fought for freedom and democracy played a key role in the Velvet Revolution. It was them who lifted the rest of society and informed people across the country about the events of November '89. This audio-visual essay created for the 35th anniversary of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy captures the November events in the city centre and puts them into context using historical materials like unique photographs or aerial footage of the whole of Prague. Created by Pierre Urban, the essay draws on archival film footage, photographs, maps and architectural designs. After spending dozens of hours studying them, Urban decided to dedicate the essay and this year's programme to the students and young people who, not only in November 1989 but always throughout history, chose to devote their energy and attention to the struggle for justice, democracy and freedom. The screening will be shown in a loop throughout the day.
