The city—the pinnacle of civilization; our living environment; our mirror. Though we rarely notice it amid the pace of everyday life, the city is one of humanity’s most complex and extraordinary creations. Since time immemorial, it has been adapting to landscape, climate, as well as the dimensions of the human body and spirit, while continuously shaping and transforming them in return. The city moves through time. Rooted in the pillars of the past, it grows toward the future. The city is an organism: it lives, grows, breathes, and communicates.
Urbania was an original interactive installation for one to eight visitors, inviting participants to become, for a moment, caretakers of an imaginary yet deeply familiar Living City. Visitors were encouraged to listen to its needs, guide its growth, and discover the eight principles on which organic and sustainable urban development is founded. They could become, for a while, the heartbeat of the city.
