The concept treats the Palmovka Hill and the sphere of the former gasometer as dominant elements in the surrounding area that need to be rediscovered, integrated, and incorporated into the surrounding structure. The spatial concept identifies strong characteristics within the area that are worth supporting. At the same time, it seeks a way to utilize problematic sections that will lead to the integration of the hill as a whole. The fundamental principle is to improve accessibility and connectivity within the area and to establish logical links to the surrounding structure. The concept is designed to ensure sufficient flexibility for the development of individual parts of the area.

The greatest asset of Palmovka Hill—namely, the hilltop with the sphere—is to open up and expand the park at the Sokolovská/Zenklova intersection. The park and the hilltop are then connected to the forest park, creating a cohesive green belt with diverse local characteristics.

On the southern terraces of the hill, which currently have a peripheral character, a network of paths and a boundary along the railroad tracks are defined. The areas located between them can be transformed in many ways—ideally as an extension of sports facilities. The specific solution is highly variable; therefore, possible development scenarios for this area have been developed.

The proposal treats the hill as a site comprising a number of diverse units. These have different characteristics and varying degrees of stability. The proposal clearly defines public spaces such as parks and open areas and interweaves the area with a logical network of paths that bring life to the hill and connect it to its surroundings.

The most valuable part of the hill is similar in character to Vítkov Park or Parukářka Park. The proposal opens part of the hilltop to the public. The restaurant at the summit becomes a central hub for the park, the sports facilities to the south, and the area near the sphere.

The park and the hilltop area near the sphere are then connected to the forest park, creating a cohesive green belt with diverse local characteristics.

The boundary between the hill and the built-up area is clearly defined and reinforced. The park benefits from its proximity to the city’s infrastructure, and vice versa.

On the southern side of the hill, which faces away from the Palmovka residential area and adjoins the railroad tracks, there is currently a peripheral area and the unfinished Technology Center (an unfinished shelter for the metro’s protective system), the completion of which is still under consideration. We propose gradually transforming the areas on the southern side of the hill—potentially, an expansion of the Youth Stadium could be considered. The southern side of Palmovka Hill may in the future become Palmovka’s recreational and sports hub.
