The project to renovate the Stromovka waterfront builds on the approved “Prague Riverbanks Concept” and the “Císařský Island and Surroundings Concept,” and the public was also involved in the planning process through participatory walks. The city is now proceeding to secure the project documentation and building permit, which it is coordinating with the planned construction of a district heating pipeline beneath the waterfront; the implementation of this project depends on the approval of a citywide district heating study in 2027.
IPR Prague has prepared a Concept Study for the adjacent section of the riverfront extending to Podbaba and the T. G. Masaryk Water Research Institute (Výzkumný ústav vodohospodářský). The existing narrow footpath will be replaced by a four-meter-wide bike path supplemented by a two-meter-wide gravel path for pedestrians, new recreational areas, a playground, direct access to the water, and a dock for the planned water bus line.
At the same time, The Directorate for Waterways of the Czech Republic (Ředitelství vodních cest), in cooperation with the city, has selected an architectural design to raise the bridge to Císařský Island in order to ensure sufficient navigation clearance. The modifications will also include comprehensive landscaping of the surrounding area, where a new pier, a convenient staircase leading to Stromovka Park, and facilities with public restrooms and refreshments will be created.
