A new neighborhood is taking shape right next to the Kolbenova metro station, named after one of the most prominent Czech innovators of the 20th century. A formerly derelict brownfield site is being transformed into a new urban neighborhood that will offer housing for young couples and singles alike. The second phase of the Emil Kolben neighborhood follows on from the successful first phase, which received its occupancy permit in the fall of 2019. The Jindřich and Hanuš apartment buildings will comprise a total of 133 residential units, ranging from studio apartments to spacious 4+kk units with large terraces. Next to the smaller Jindřich building—named after Emil Kolben’s grandson—will stand the 14-story Hanuš building, named after the famous industrialist’s son. The complex and the apartment buildings will also feature interesting elements referencing the era of Emil Kolben and the later ČKD company.

In addition to rising demands for building quality and a healthy indoor environment, there is also a growing emphasis on the development of public spaces. The newly emerging neighborhood offers a park with a playground, an educational trail, and a peaceful and safe public space with opportunities for community and sports activities. The uniqueness and identity of this place are underscored by sculptures by Czech sculptor Matěj Hájek, who, in collaboration with the landscape architecture studio LAND05, also contributed to the design of the entire public space in this newly developing neighborhood. The first sculpture to be installed is Rezistor.

Subsequent phases will follow in stages, creating a new urban neighborhood with excellent access to downtown Prague and Rokytka Park.
