In the competition workshop, an independent panel of experts selected four architectural studies from among twelve teams—UNIT architekti, KLASKA LTD, edit! architects, and majo architekti—which will jointly design the first two residential blocks, including public spaces, green areas, and a functional ground floor level, for the Žižkov City project.
The site where the blocks will be built is adjacent to the historic functionalist train station building. The blocks will be further divided into individual buildings, creating approximately 1,000 apartments ranging in layout from 1 + KK to spacious 6 + KK units. All apartments will feature a balcony, loggia, or front garden. A green courtyard will serve both residents and the public. Construction of the buildings is expected to begin in two years.
The modern Žižkov City district will be built on the site of one of Prague’s largest brownfields. In total, it will offer more than 3,000 apartments for 6,000 residents, a vibrant ground level, high-quality public spaces, and extensive green areas. Next to the former train station building—which the Prague City Hall is renovating into a cultural and community center—plans call for a large central square where shops and community spaces, including a new elementary school, will be concentrated. According to current estimates, the total investment in the project will reach approximately 25 billion crowns.
