How to design squares that are not only beautiful but also lively, sustainable and attractive to spend time in? Squares have always been at the heart of cities and neighbourhoods–the heart of socializing, commerce, and events. How do we look after historic squares and design new ones that respond to today's needs, climate change, and the need for inclusivity? In the next Rethink Architecture lecture we will focus on squares in both towns and cities. We will explore revitalization, social dimension, multi-functionality, the role of greenery, and balancing space for pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic.
