Why do we need nature in cities?

How can parks and urban forests help address problems in cities, rather than serve only as decoration? One source of inspiration is the planned 30-hectare Nordør Park in the Nordhavn district of Copenhagen. The nature-based design studio SLA is designing Nordør on land that was part of the industrial port for more than a century and served as a storage site for construction soil. This history has created a distinctive, uneven terrain, which over time has allowed spontaneous natural habitats to develop. The project builds on the environment that has naturally evolved here, and it is also designed with an aim of capturing more CO₂ than it emits.

The lecture by Mette Skjold, Senior Partner, architect, and CEO of SLA, will demonstrate how knowledge of environmental challenges can be turned into concrete action. Rather than postponing progress through further analysis, the studio advocates for the immediate implementation of real, nature-based solutions.

The event is organized in cooperation with the CCEA MOBA.
