New Year’s resolutions broken, and Dry February ahead. The number of people addicted to drugs is rising—not just to cigarettes and alcohol, but also to marijuana, kratom, cocaine, and heroin. While heroin is the main illegal hard drug in most of Europe, in the Czech Republic it’s traditionally methamphetamine, thanks in part to domestic production. The amount of methamphetamine in Czech wastewater is actually the highest in Europe. In which cities and neighborhoods is its concentration highest? And what other drugs are found in our sewage system? Documentary filmmaker and journalist Apolena Rychlíková accepted our invitation, along with Jindřich Vobořil, the national anti-drug coordinator and one of the country’s leading experts on drug issues.
