How to build on the top of mountains? What do architects have to take into account when designing for extreme conditions? This time, the Urban Talks lecture will be about the experience of the Tyrolean studio noa*, which became famous for its observation deck at an altitude of 3,251 meters in the Ötztal Alps. The drop-shaped lookout gives visitors an unmatchable view of the surrounding mountain peaks and the site of the discovery of the Ötzi mummy. The influence of the Alpine environment can be found in almost all their projects, from the swimming facilities on Lake Völs at the foot of the Schlern massif to the hotel in the apple orchard in the valley town of Saltusio. Architect Andrea Dal Negro, who has been leading the Berlin office of noa* since 2018, will discuss the studio's philosophy and approach.
