Architecture That Shapes Everyday Life

In the center of Helsinki, they designed Amos Rex – a gallery hidden beneath the square, whose concrete domes have become a new public space. They also left a significant mark with the National Museum of Finland project, where they worked on the reconstruction and new meaning of a cultural institution for the contemporary city. In Tampere, they created the Tammela Hybrid Stadium, which combines football, housing, and an urban block into a single functional whole and earned the studio a nomination for the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture (Mies van der Rohe Awards). JKMM is a studio that is changing the face of Finnish cities. They have long reminded us that architecture is not just a set of technical requirements. It is also about desires, ideas, and dreams – and that is why it has the power to influence how we use the city and how we feel in it. Humanity is always present in their buildings: attention to what people actually experience on a daily basis. Samuli Miettinen, founding and creative partner of the studio, came to present the Museum of Architecture and Design in Helsinki, which is currently in preparation and will feature a facade made of recycled bricks.
