The Metropolitan Plan will be the new Land-Use Plan of Prague. As such, it proposes rules for the development of the capital for the next fifteen to twenty years. In the context of the prevailing approach to land-use planning in the Czech Republic, this is a very innovative move. Instead of the existing city planning, based on the functional use of the area, it returns to the First Czech Republic way of city planning. Its fundamental principles thus include the definition of public spaces, the structure and composition of building development, and the determination of height regulation.

The Metropolitan Plan has been in development at the Prague Institute of Planning and Development since 2012, when its procurement was decided on by the Municipal District Assembly of Prague. Currently, a proposal of the Metropolitan Plan has been prepared and entered the process of discussion. Visitors to the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP) could get acquainted with the full content of this plan from April 27th to July 27th, 2018. The plan was available to them both in physical print form, and in a digital version that allowed them to study all layers of texts and drawings very clearly and conveniently on several giant touch screens. In addition to the plan itself, visitors had the opportunity to become familiarized with the document Assessment of Impacts of Prague Metropolitan Plan on the Sustainable Development of the Territory. On selected days and hours, expert consultants were available from the Institute for Planning and Development and the Prague City Hall, who responded to any questions and also advised on how to submit comments on the Metropolitan Plan. Comments could be submitted starting June 27th, 2018, for a statutory time limit of thirty days, after which the draft plan was modified based on the comments, so that the second round of public discussion could take place. The Metropolitan Plan should become effective from 2026.
