Nadhledová vizualizace revitalizace Václavského náměstí, horní část
Wenceslas Square has always been one of the main symbols of the Czech lands. The square was and remains the center of Prague and the Prague Conservation Area, and is also the venue for important events and meetings. The renovation of the square's appearance has been planned since 2005, and the project, which has been suspended or postponed several times, has recently been substantially supplemented by a new transport solution that will bring a tram line to the square. After all, trams ran here for most of the twentieth century. Except for the new lines located in one third of the square’s width, the project remains more or less in the form of the original study by the Jakub Cigler Architekti studio and Atelier DUA. The design clearly delineates the different spaces of the square for different modes of transport, extends the pedestrian space, which is placed in the center of the square, adds tree alleys, a separate lane for cyclists, and reduces the space for cars. The return of the trams will not only make the square's redevelopment more representative and improve the residential focus, but will also help to significantly strengthen the tram network in the center, with a resulting positive impact on traffic throughout the city.
The Wenceslas Square revitalization project is divided into two basic stages. The transformation of the lower part of the square began this year, while an important step forward was an agreement between the Prague City Hall, the Prague 1 district, conservationists and the investor for the new Savarin commercial complex project in the courtyard between Vodičkova and Na Příkopech streets that the access ramps for the shopping center's underground garages would not be in the square.
