Beverly Hills in Malá Šárka

What did housing for the new social elite of the 1990s look like? And what happens when the American model of gated residential complexes is transferred to the Czech environment for the first time? This guided tour will focus on the Malá Šárka villa colony, which was established in Nebušice as Prague’s first gated community. However, this was not a random display of various forms of so-called entrepreneurial baroque—the villa development here bears a uniform architectural style. Columns, balustrades, and shutters create an environment that clearly references American suburbs. Architectural historian Adéla Vaculíková and journalist Karolína Vránková will guide you through the site.
