Rajská zahrada

What kind of architecture does this post-revolutionary Prague metro station conceal? Rajská zahrada is one of the projects that most clearly demonstrated, in the 1990s, the transformation of the relationship between architecture, transportation, and everyday life on the city’s outskirts. This guided walk will focus on its unconventional design—instead of a classic underground station, Patrik Kotas designed an open, glass-walled structure that integrates with its surroundings and functions as a natural hub for the area. Together with architect Patrik Kotas and architect Jan Bureš, co-author of the book DEVADE, we will explore how similar projects on the city’s outskirts came into being, what architectural and social changes they brought about, and why they are essential for understanding Prague’s development after 1989. The route will also lead to the Černý Most station, to which the Rajská zahrada is connected by a pedestrian promenade.
