Transformations of Prague Castle

What else does our most famous landmark hide besides old palaces and the cathedral? Together with architectural historian Adéla Vaculíková, co-author of the book DEVADE, we’ll set out to discover how Prague Castle has transformed since 1989, when it began gradually opening to the public after having been a closed and strictly guarded site. During our walk through the grounds, we’ll trace the changes initiated by President Václav Havel. We’ll visit places that were previously inaccessible, explore the transformed gardens and courtyards, and notice the modern interventions that have sensitively complemented the historic setting. Together, we’ll uncover why the Castle was once perceived as a “fortress” and how it gradually transformed into a vibrant center of culture and community.
