FA 2024 | The Architects of Hope: The First Steps in Rebuilding Ukraine

As Russia continues to destroy Ukrainian cities, Ukrainian architects are working to rebuild them. How to proceed now? Many ambitious projects no longer make sense in the current situation, and new demands on buildings and public space are emerging. Buildings should be stable and resilient as well as more accessible for people with war injuries. The film follows five leading Ukrainian architects as they come to terms with the situation - finding new spaces for their ruined studios, rethinking their current approach to their work, and, most importantly, not relenting in their efforts to rebuild or transform war-affected areas. For the architects, hope is not just wishful thinking but a necessity to realize a vision of the future shape of their cities.

The program is part of the Film and Architecture Festival.
