Forms of Brutalism & Hotel InterContinental

An architect in the diplomatic service. This informal title was given to architect Karel Filsak, who was behind the creation of embassies built in China, India and Brazil. He was also the co-author of the Intercontinental Hotel built during the late 1960s and early 1970s, which later hosted guests such as Michael Jackson and U.S. President Richard Nixon. He also successfully championed a new style, for which the term "brutalism" was coined. Hotel InterContinental, considered one of the leading examples of this style, is currently being renovated. The architect Marek Tichý, who together with his team is managing the ongoing reconstruction, and the historian Radomíra Sedláková will talk about the findings of their work on the building, which was built at the time of the beginning of normalization. They will also discuss the broader context of Brutalism. The event is part of the accompanying program of the Open House Prague Festival.

The event is in Czech language only.
