Rethink Architecture: Sustainability Without Technologies

Sustainability in architecture needs to go beyond the sophisticated modern technologies that are often used to make up for unsuitable building concepts. The extraction of raw materials to produce technological equipment and the transport and subsequent recycling all have significant environmental impacts. Rethink Architecture's first lecture of 2024 will focus on the topic of low-tech, or in other words, how to design buildings sustainably and without the complex technologies often necessary for their functioning. How can we take inspiration from historical architecture and adapt to the context and local natural conditions? We will also check out suitable contemporary examples, and last but not least, we will focus on the economic savings and the social dimension of the low-tech approach.
