The energy and inner drive of students in the fight for freedom and democracy played a key role during the Velvet Revolution. It was they who rallied the whole of society, and it was they who informed the public throughout the country about the November events. An audiovisual essay, created for the 35th anniversary of the struggle for freedom and democracy, captures the November events in the city centre and places them in the context of historical materials, including unique photographs and aerial shots of the whole of Prague. Its author is Pierre Urban, who created it in 2024 from archival film materials, photographs and maps. After spending dozens of hours studying them, he decided to dedicate the essay and this year's program to students and young people who, not only in November 1989 but also at other times in history, decided to devote their energy and attention to the struggle for justice, democracy, and freedom.
The film Soundtrack of Prague: Freedom will be presented by the project's author, Pierre Urban. It focuses on architecture in the second half of the 1980s and the events of November 1989. The screening will be followed by a lecture on architecture in Prague in the 1990s. The forthcoming book and exhibition on this topic, which will be presented next year at CAMP, will be introduced by their co-author, architect Jan Bureš.
