Why do some cities grow while others stagnate? This lecture will show how urban economics explains the impacts of transport investments, labor market support, and construction on relationships between settlements and their inhabitants. We'll explore who actually profits from these decisions and what economic mechanisms are at play. The session will include theoretical frameworks and empirical findings to help understand urban and regional processes, along with recommendations for creating more effective public policies. The program follows on from previous years devoted to the role of regulation in urban development, but this time offers deeper insight into economic relationships.
The event takes place as part of the Urban Economics course organised by the Department of Spatial Planning at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague. The department focuses on education and research in spatial mobility, settlement and landscape development at the local and regional levels, and the social and economic contexts of territorial development.
