Life According to the Wartime Timetable
Jiří Menzel / Czechoslovakia / 1966 / 92 min / Czech / English subtitles

Jiří Menzel's iconic work, based on Bohumil Hrabal's novel of the same name, will open this year's outdoor film season. The story, set in World War II, shows that human nature does not change in difficult times, but emerges even more strongly in contrast to war. The main character is a young railway worker Miloš Hrma, who experiences not only his first love but also his journey to adulthood at a rural railway station. This year, the entire programme of the summer cinema will be in the spirit of the railway – trains, stations and tracks will be the common motif of all the films screened.
