Demolition or recycling? How can residential neighborhoods be transformed so that they remain vibrant, accessible, and sustainable in the long term? Copenhagen-based studio Vandkunsten Architects is among the pioneers of an architectural approach that connects social and environmental sustainability with support for community life. Their projects explore participatory housing models, timber construction and the reuse of building elements. Architect Elena Astrid Rojas will present several projects—the Tingbjerg project shows how modernist housing estates can be revitalized through sensitive densification and new wooden buildings. The CPH Village student housing project, on the other hand, offers a flexible and partially mobile form of housing using recycled elements. Enghave Brygge demonstrates the creation of a new neighborhood with an emphasis on public space and neighborly relations. The lecture will offer an inspiring look at the current Danish approach to sustainable and socially sensitive architecture.
